Spicy Lemon Ginger Anti-inflammatory (and Hydrating) Tea

Close-up of a cup of ginger lemon tea with two slices of lemon.

This spicy, warming lemon ginger tea has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties is a great way to start your day (BEFORE you reach for a caffienated drink).

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 inches fresh ginger root, peeled
  • half a lemon
  • OPTIONAL: 1-2 teaspoons raw honey

Instructions

  • Grate raw, peeled ginger root with a microplane or grater
  • Add ginger to 16 ounces of cold, filtered water
  • Let ginger infuse water overnight.
  • In a small saucepan, bring ginger water to a boil.
  • Remove saucepan from heat. Add half a lemon.
  • Strain into cup.
  • ALTERNATE IF DID NOT INFUSE: Bring ginger water mixture to a boil. Lower heat and let simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and add lemon.

Notes

I’ve used jarred, grated ginger but raw ginger will have stronger antioxidant properties and I’ve found the jarred ginger doesn’t yield the same spiciness.
