This super green smoothie is a nutrient-dense way to start your day. Its full of “super green” foods which are anti-inflammatory and anti-aging!
Why Are Green Smoothies Good For You?
One of the nutrition pillars of Eat Beautifully is to get more greens! Eating lots of leafy greens is the most profound way to change your health! Greens provide fiber to help feed your microbiome which results in:
- improved digestion
- increased nutrient absorption
- clearer skin
- improved energy
- overall better health
The insoluble fiber in greens rids the body of waste and the soluble fiber feeds the good bacteria in our gut. Greens are also packed with phytonutrients (which help improve our our cells function and protect from disease) and water to help keep your skin glowing.
What Are the Benefits of This Super Green Smoothie?
It is recommended to get 4-6 cups of greens a day! If that sounds intimidating then try this smoothie recipe which is packed with 2 cups of greens, in addition to other powerhouse ingredients. This green tropical smoothie provides:
- Insoluble and soluble fiber – to flush out your system and support your microbiome
- Phytonutrients (nutrients from plants) – lowers inflammation
- Antioxidants – to protect your cells from oxidative stress
- Hydration – to flush toxins, improve skin complexion and increase energy
- Healthy fats – Omega 3s from plant-based sources to support brain health and heart health and reduce inflammation.
What Is In This Green Tropical Smoothie?
- Kiwi – Eating kiwifruit in any quantity can reduce DNA damage by approximately 60 percent. Eating three kiwis per day could actually repair activity by 66 percent! Kiwis are also full of vitamin C which is great for collagen production.
- Baby spinach – Baby spinach is a great source of plant-based calcium in addition to all the nutrient-density of greens!
- Broccoli microgreens – The nutritional content of microgreens can be 40 times more potent than the parent plant! The star compound in broccoli microgreens is sulphoraphane which promotes healthier aging! This recipe calls for 4oz (1/2 cup) of microgreens which is the “therapeutic dose” but you can go a little lighter if you don’t like the taste.
- Pineapple – Ideally use a whole slice of pineapple (about 1/2 cup) which also includes the core. The core of pineapple has a concentrated amount of health benefits including bromeliad that helps fight cancer and inflammation.
- Hemp seeds – These super seeds add protein and healthy fats
- Spirulina – A powder, this is an algae-source of omega 3s and protein
- Banana – Provides natural sweetness and thickness (add a whole banana if not using protein powder)
- Nut milk – Use organic nut milk of your choice as the base. Be sure to loo for brand that includes minimal additives. For this recipe I particularly like coconut milk (unsweetened from a box, not canned).
- Vanilla protein powder – I add a scoop of vegan vanilla protein powder to make this smoothie a meal-replacement. If you don’t want to add the protein, I recommend adding the whole banana.
This super green smoothie is a great way to start your day or for post-workout recovery. Any smoothie is best enjoyed fresh but will still be good if you want to make it 1 or 2 hours in advance. You will just need to shake the smoothie before serving.

- Prep Time: 5
- Total Time: 5
- Yield: 1 serving 1x
- Category: Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1 cup plant-based milk (I like unsweetened coconut, boxed not canned)
- 1/2 frozen banana
- 1 kiwi (washed and unpeeled)
- 1 slice of pineapple (core included); about 1/2 cup cubed (or mango)
- 1 cup of baby spinach
- 1/4 – 1/2 cup broccoli microgreens
- 1 teaspoon spirulina
- 1 tablespoon hemp seed
- 1 scoop vegan vanilla protein powder*
- 1/2 cup ice
Instructions
Add all of the ingredients into a high speed blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy!
Notes
- If you don’t want to include protein powder then I recommend using a whole frozen banana
- Be sure to use microgreens or broccoli microgreens. Do not use microgreens which have arugula or your smoothie will have an unpleasant taste. If you don’t want that much “green” then start with 1/4 cup of broccoli microgreens.
- You don’t have to peel the kiwi! The kiwi peel provides extra nutrients and fiber!
