Cozy up with a good book or Netflix with this warming, anti-inflammatory turmeric latte.
I usually drink turmeric team in the winter, but OMG I recently started drinking this latte at night and it has been a game-changer. I usually get a little hungry before bedtime or start craving something sweet. Tea is helpful in curbing those cravings, but this turmeric latte is great for nights (or days) when you want something a bit RICHER (but not too rich that its dessert). Making this latte has now become my favorite way to unwind. I think of it as my “bedtime tonic”.
This latte is sweet, spicy, warming – perfect for these chillier fall nights. It is also low in fat and sugar.
Benefits of Tumeric
There are so many great benefits to turmeric. This spice is:
- A natural anti-inflammatory
- Helps boost the immune system
- Has been shown in in lab studies to have an effect on cancer cells
How to Use Tumeric
You can buy the full turmeric root or the powder (I find it easier to use the powder). Tumeric has a brilliant yellow color that will permanently stain and will also stain your hands for a a few days, so be sure to use a cutting board and gloves when working with fresh turmeric. Also, regardless of whether you used fresh or powdered, be careful not to spill something with turmeric in it. I haven’t yet figured out how to get out the stains…
Make sure whenever you consume turmeric, to combine it with a touch of black pepper. The key compound in turmeric is curcumin which unfortunately is not well absorbed in the body. Black pepper has a compound called capsaicin which helps to enhance the the absorption of the curcumin in the turmeric and unlock turmeric’s anti-inflammatory benefits!
